Jordan has two railway systems, these are the Hedjaz Jordan Railway and the Aqaba Railway Corporation.
The Hedjaz Jordan Railway runs a twice weekly passenger service from Amman to the Syrian border (where there is a connecting service through to Damascus).
The Aqaba Railway Corp runs a freight only system some 300km long for the transportation of phosphate ore from the mines to the port at Aqaba. There are approximately seven train loads from the mines to docks each day and the corresponding returning empty wagons
